I hope everyone returned from the Keyhole tournament safely. What a long drive when a person is extremely tired! My daughter, Angela, was not impressed with the mattress on her bed at the motel. I think she was just too mad at the pike for chewing off her favorite PINK lure! Even though we had a hard time bringing any pike to our net, we had a great time out on the lake for two days while breaking in our new boat. I think everyone needs to take their kids out fishing one at a time to fully appreciate what a blessing they are. We never get to spend enough quality time with them. While in the boat, we solved all the world’s problems from Iraq to the national debt, Hillary to Bush, Katrina to all the relief efforts in New Orleans, border problems from Canada to Mexico, Burns to Tescher, FWP to the new Ft. Peck hatchery, fuel prices to the cost of new vehicles, and finally, what the ratio of chocolate to marshmallow is in the perfect campfire smores. Speaking of smores, Greg Heil makes pretty good ones. He just needs someone to show him where the fire is located. How come he can find the cooler so fast when he needs a cool one?

The Montana crew made a better showing this year. Congrats to Clay B. and James B. It was great to finally present them with two of our trophies! Clay had been to all of our tourneys without claiming one, but this year he earned a solid second place with the largest pike trophy thrown in. Greg and Becky survived the two nights around the campfire to lay claim on third place. They were in the right place at the right time. Angela and I sat on a point for two hrs. without getting a bite. Greg and Becky pulled in after we left and caught two large fish while losing several more. Angela is sure one of those fish had her PINK lure in its’ stomach!

The barbecue was successful even though I left the salads at home in my fridge. Joe was only trying to make me feel better by leaving the reels for the raffle home on his kitchen counter. Thats’ what is so great about Pikemasters. We are always covering each other’s back! As you can see, the Keyhole tourney was once again a big success.

I want to give Bruce Galvin a big thanks for building our new barbeque grill on wheels. We can take it along to our many events. Bruce put many long hours into this project and I want him to know what a super job he did. We can cook thirty t-bones on it at one time. Now we just need someone to donate the thirty t-bones!

Time to get on with new business now. We have a good meeting planned for Thursday night. Robert Peterson from Tongue Reservoir will be present with an update on all the projects planned for that area. Funding is once again a big problem. I hope we can finally get the new fish cleaning station up and running.

Banquet planning time is approaching rapidly. We have to make a few preliminary decisions at this time. We have already changed locations. Now we have to decide on how many tickets will be sold. Also, we have to start collecting raffle prizes.

Dates for all Montana tourneys have to be applied for before the end of the month.

If we decide to host a tourney at Ft. Peck next year, plans have to be made now. Several charities have been calling me for donations. Our generosity towards kids has given us a good reputation.

Please plan on attending our next meeting Thursday Oct. 5, 2005 at the Elks. Dinner is available from 5:30 on. I hope to see all of you there.

Good luck in your fishing,
