Congratulations and a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make last night’s banquet a huge success! The change in locations to the Elk’s Club was a wise decision. All doubts were put to rest when the huge crowd filed in the door. We got lots of complements on the dinner. One thing I must mention is that all the committee members expected tartar sauce to be on the tables. That is one issue we must correct for next year. Lots of raffle prizes, live and silent auction items, and kids prizes were enjoyed by all. Unless a person is involved with the production of an event this size, one doesn’t realize the incredible amount of work necessary to guarantee it will be a success. I want to give a personal thank you to Joe Stenglein for all the late nights he has put in to keep our prizes in order. Without Joe’s organizational abilities, the banquet committee would be lost! Clay, Greg, Becky, Conrad, Bob R., Bill, Leonard and Peggy, Mike, and the swine Dolly all deserve a big THANK YOU for their time and efforts. There are also many Pikemasters members who stepped forward last night to help with the event. The only casualty of the evening was my voice. It left me at the end of the evening and has not returned yet!
Since this club is such a close-knit group, when one of our members passes, we all grieve as a unit. The passing of Leonard Lawver has hit us hard. Leonard was one of the rocks in the foundation of this club. I want to wish Peggy and the rest of Leonard’s family our sincere condolences. Peggy has asked me to continue to include her in our events as an active committee member. “Peggy, You are not going to get away from us. Your hard work ethics and devotion to this club will always be welcome.”
I also want to offer our condolences to Joe Stenglein and his family. Joe lost his mother last week. He made several trips to Baker last week, and still found time to organize all the prizes for the banquet. I think both Joe and Peggy will need a few good fishing trips this spring with their good friends to keep things in perspective.
I think it is now time for some good news. Our good friend, Clay B., has asked me to include his wedding announcement in this month’s newsletter.
Jacki L. Sherman and Clay W. Buckmiller request the honour of your presence as they unite in marriage on Saturday, the 24th day of March, 2007, at 4:00 in the afternoon at First Presbyterian Church, 2420 13th St. West, Billings Mt. Reception will follow the ceremony at Knights of Columbus Hall, 2216 Grand Ave., Billings. Please RSVP to 656-7380 as soon as possible.
Congrats to Jacki and Clay! I just want Clay to remember one thing – “What happens in Great Falls, STAYS in Great Falls!”
At our next meeting, Thursday March 1st, we will take the final order this year for our rods. The cost is $50 for each rod. We do not need payment until the rods arrive.
I will have a report on an interesting trip to the Legislature. A lot of people are coming to realize that the new hatchery must be funded at the state level. Unfortunately, Senate Bill 402 did not include several necessary items, and was very poorly written.
Nathan McClenning will give a report on his netting study on the Yellowstone River. He has compiled some very interesting info on the local fishery.
See you all next Thursday, March 1st, 7:00 at the Elks
Good luck in your fishing,
-- Tom Reiter
