Just couldn't wait any longer to go fishing
April, 2006
I think Spring has sprung. The grass is getting greener as the hours pass. I hope you are getting your boats ready for another great season of exceptional fishing. Bob Rausch, Tanner, and I couldn't wait any longer. We had a great time on Yellowtail yesterday. The weather was fantastic, the boat ran better than ever, and we caught a few nice walleyes.
We have a lot on the agenda for this months meeting. Bob Rausch has a request from a local charity to help with a special day of fishing on the Yellowstone River for a few special kids. I will let Bob fill us all in on Thursday. It sounds like a great idea for Pikemasters to shine.
I hope there are a few paddle fishermen among you! We are going to plan a trip to the Missouri to catch a few large specimens. At least we hope to catch a few. A raffle for a new rod and reel will be offered at our meeting.
I will give a report on the fish hatchery funding meeting in Glasgow. Everyone seemed to be ready to compromise on a solution to the problem. I am sure that a viable funding plan will be developed soon.
A sign-up sheet will be passed around to schedule help for our Kid's Fishing Day at the Laurel Pond. We can expect more than 200 kids this year. June 3rd is going to be a special day for lots of future Pikemasters. Lots of volunteers will be needed to instruct the kids in the fine art of trout fishing.
Clay will give us an update on the roofing project for Hell Creek Marina. We are not sure how many people he will need to assist him and his crew in completing the project.
Although Becky Heil will be absent at this weeks' meeting, I want to direct a big Pikemasters' thank you in her direction. Becky did a fantastic job decorating the kids' playhouse project. All of the different playhouses are still on display at Rimrock Mall. You can still purchase tickets to win one of the houses. This project will work wonders in getting our name recognized around the area.
Last, but not least, is everyone ready for a Spring Fling? The first annual Pikemasters Spring Fling will be held this year at my humble abode. We will have a barbecue along with a fishing tackle and camping gear swap later this month--possibly the last weekend of this month or the first week of May will work nicely. We will decide on a date this Thursday.
I hope to see you all Thursday, April 6, 7:00 at the Eagles Hall.
Good luck in your fishing,
-- Tom Reiter
P.S. We've located a new site for our monthly meetings-where kids will be allowed! We'll vote on making a change this Thursday.
