April, 2007
As I sit down at my keyboard this afternoon, I have to keep telling myself that it is actually the second week of spring. There is about six inches of snow outside of my window right now. Shouldn’t we all be out enjoying some great early season fishing this weekend? I guess that I am not a firm believer of the global warming theory. I keep reading about the disappearing ice at the North Pole and the increased thickness of the Antarctic land ice sheet. Scientists are split over the whether the changes are man caused or just a natural weather cycle. Who are we supposed to believe? Personally, I am leaning towards the natural weather cycle theory. I just can’t see myself ever agreeing with Al Gore on any issue! Living in Montana has given me a healthy respect for Mother Nature.
I guess you all can see that the only television shows I watch are on the Discovery Channel, ESPN, or the Outdoor Channel. Tanner has just given me an idea. Why not start the Pikemaster’s Channel? Everyone could see Becky land fish, Greg take them off the hook, swine Dolly fillet them, and Bob Rausch eat them! All I know is that it certainly has been a long winter. I think it’s time to get back to the business at hand before I get really carried away again.
Our rods are ordered. They should be in around the third week of April. I will keep everyone posted when I hear from Fig Rig.
Swine Dolly, Mike Speare, Conrad Sandaker, and myself overhauled several bicycles for the Boy’s and Girl’s Club last weekend. We had around 16 to begin with, and after robbing parts from some to repair others, we ended up with 10 good bikes for the kids. I will deliver them to 10 happy kids later this week.
Joe should have a financial report on our banquet ready for us at Thursday’s meeting. We are still getting compliments on the fish.
Kid’s fishing day is next on the agenda. Our effort to introduce more kids to our sport is really paying off. We are getting lots of financial support for this year’s event. Both Becky and swine Dolly will keep us updated on plans for area kids at Laurel Pond in June.
I have been asked to let everyone know that the Newmart Resort trip that was won at our banquet is for sale. The lucky person who won it will be in Alaska all summer and therefore will be unable to use the trip. Bob R. will have details at the meeting.
Keep in mind that this is election year. Nominations for officers will be taken at our May and June meetings. All members will be mailed a ballot in June. All ballots must be mailed or returned to Joe at our July meeting. Ballots will be counted at the meeting with results announced the same evening.
See you all Thursday, April 5th, 7:00 at the Elk’s.
Good luck in your fishing,
-- Tom Reiter
P.S. I will give a short demo on the use of slip bobbers before the meeting.
