We have a new meeting site
at the Elks Club

July, 2006

July is here already, and I still have not caught a pike this year. There is something absolutely sinful about that!

My son boated 4 of them while pre-fishing the tournament last week, but I only was responsible for netting them. I hope everyone else had as much fun up at Rock Creek as I did!

Pike seemed to be somewhat scarce during the tourney, but there was an excellent walleye bite going on up the lake. Crankbaits were the ticket around the Pines. We boated 20-30 lbs of walleyes each day on Friday and Saturday. The long boat ride Saturday was well worth it because of the great walleye and bass action.

Congratulations to Paul Meyers and Mark Johns for their 1st. place finish with 40 lbs. of pike. Paul will need an addition to his house just to display all of the trophies he has won at the Pikemasters tournaments the last few years. He definitely has the pike dialed in!

Lots of sideshows kept us all in the partying mood. Bob and George with their continuous argument about who has the fastest boat kept us all chuckling. All the while, Bruce just stood aside and called them both amateurs. Believe me, the deck at the marina really came alive when Bruce fired up all 500 horses and headed out of the bay! Before loading up to leave, Bruce gave Bob a ride just to burn up the last 10 gal. of fuel he had left. That took about 5 minutes!

Now, on to new club business. On Thursday, July 6, the new hatchery will be dedicated. Mark Henckel will be in attendance and will give us all a report. Funding for the new hatchery is another question. It seems that FWP is not interested in what is best for the hatchery. I have heard through the grapevine that the "brass" up in Helena is not willing to force the issue with T.U. and the Flyfishers Federation. When will people quit arguing and use some common sense?????

Greg and Becky Heil used their free trip to Last Mountain Lake a couple weeks ago. We will ask for a full fishing report. I have seen a few pictures of Becky, but none of them had any fish in view. I want her to explain why all the Rapalas were hanging off the south end of her shorts!?!?

Joe will have a financial report for us. We have received several donations from various businesses to help with our projects. The club is in excellent shape financially. I want both Bob Dolly and Joe Stenglein to know how much we appreciate their efforts.

Both Bob Dolly and I will have info on projects at Tongue and Fort Peck. I hope to have a return letter from the Director of FWP by the meeting.

See you all Thursday, July 6, 7:00 at the Elks.

Good luck in your fishing,

                             -- Tom Reiter

P.S. We only have 4 tickets left for the paddlefish outfit. A lucky winner will be drawn Thursday!
